Into the Wild Blog #1

Chris McCandless, in my opinion, was borderline obnoxious. He was definitely entitled to his choice of whether to live in society or on the road; however, it is the way that he distanced himself from his family and friends that annoys me. There may be a reason why he resents them so much, but that doesn't make it fine for Chris to disappear without moments notice. On the other hand, my impression of Alexander Supertramp is that he is a hard working, and ready for adventure. It is puzzling how the same person can have such a dramatic change of personality, but perhaps Chris was always Alexander Supertramp and it was only after his graduation from college that he was able to grow and discover himself, even if it led to his demise. All in all, McCandless may have been percieved as crazy, but I believe he was just a boy who needed a little bit of fresh air.

  1. Clare, I liked the perspective you took on the story as to maybe he was boarder line crazy, but he could just need a bit of fresh air. I agree with how you read into the story and the characteristics of Chris.

  2. That is a very interesting perspective, the way you looked at him as having two seperate personalities. That's a good way of explaining a few things, such as why he would leave after he had achieved all that he did.

  3. The idea that he had two distinct personalities is interesting. That would explain why he did some of the things he did,I can relate to what you're saying.

  4. I really liked how you explained McCandless. I agree with you where you said he was borderline obnoxious for leaving his friends and family behind with just a short notice. That bothered me as well.

  5. I agree with you. I wouldn't go as far as to say that he is almost obnoxious, but I agree with you when you said that he just needed some fresh air.

  7. I really like how you used Chris and Alex like they were different people. Now that I think about it; they were. Chris was a rich kid with no troubles in life and Alex was a wild animal who acepted help from no one.

  8. I agree on most of the things you said but i don't really think he was obnoxious. i thought he just was extremely passionate in what he believed and that caused him to overlook some things.
